I’ve just started a new Wordpress blog, Robin Hood Adventures, and I thought it would be useful to make a note of the Wordpress plugins that I installed.
- Amazing Grace Theme A very nice SEO optimized theme with a bunch of extra features. A couple of the supplied header photos were even suitable for the subject of the blog.
- Askimet - comes with the Wordpress download and seems to be excellent at catching comment spam. Just activated it and entered my API key from Wordpress.com
- All in One SEO Pack - Out-of-the-box Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Handles page titles, page descriptions, keywords and duplicate content.
- Contact Form 7 - A simple but flexible contact form plugin that handles multiple forms and also includes a CAPTCHA feature to help prevent bots using the form
- Google Analyticator - Allows easy integration of Google Analytics. Just enter your GA ID and Google Analyticator puts the necessary code into your pages. There’s even a option to disable tracking of logged in admins.
- Google XML Sitemaps This plugin will generate a sitemaps.org compatible sitemap of your WordPress blog which is supported by Ask.com, Google, MSN Search and YAHOO
- SEO Friendly Images Automatically adds alt and title attributes to all your images. Improves traffic from search results and makes them W3C/xHTML valid as well
- Similar Posts Displays a highly configurable list of related posts. Similarity can be based on any combination of word usage in the content, title, or tags. Needs the Post-Plugin Library plugin to work.
- WordPress.com Stats Google Analytics is very cool with lots of bells and whistles, but it’s always 24 hours behind. This plugin gives you access to the same realtime stats module used on Wordpress.com blogs. Needs a Wordpress.com API key to work.
- WP Greet Box - Shows different messages to visitors depending on where they came from and encourages them to subscribe to your RSS feed, Digg the post, Tweet the post on Twitter and so on. Comes preconfigured with various services and it’s easy to add your own.
- WP tags to Technorati Coverts Wordpress 2.3+ tags to Technorati tags

I came across a privacy plugin that installs a privacy page automatically for you. Google seems to like About, contact and privacy pages and seems IMHO to rank sites a bit higher when they have them
